Placenta previa complicates 0.3-0.6% of all live births and results in considerable perinatal morbidity and mortality. Established risk factors for placenta previa include advanced maternal age, higher gravidity and parity, smoking during
pregnancy,
large placenta and prior cesarean delivery
During the period from November 1993 to October 1994, 55 cases of placenta previa and 1158 cases of normal control were analysed by case-control study to investigate association between the placenta previa and risk factors,
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. The maternal age and number of gravida were higher in the placenta previa group.
2. The gestational age and birth weight were comparable.
3. There was no statistical difference in the prior cesarean delivery rates.
4. The occurrence rate of placenta previa was higher in pregnant women with large placenta.
